Alive and Well!
Suffering from intense heat: 8:31 and counting
Yay!! We have arrived safely in Hong Kong last night, with no delays whatsoever in flight. But my god..Hong Kong is freaken humid. I should never underestimated when my friend warned me, "Hong Kong has 98% humidity.." *sigh*
But all in all..it has been fun!!!! Me and Darren spent all morning walking down to his old house (not that far from where we are staying) and spending a bit of time near the little shops near his place. Then we headed out to Sha-Tin mall, which was like, connected to a billion other malls, and realized we walked a good 6+ hours today. We are tired!!! I'm in a bit of a culture shock actually. Everything is very different from Canada. And I'm forced to excercise the limits of my proficiancy in chinese (which isn't very proficient), and everything/one is very, very fobby. I feel that much more like a tourist because I don't have a cell phone nor a mp3 player wrapped around my neck.
However, what is weird is that the stores in Hong Kong play English music. I've walked into stores where they play enimem and 50 Cent, and I can guarantee you those people have no idea what they are talking about. It's still very weird. And I heard Green Day and Kelly Clarkson playing too....even more strange.
Mp3 players and cell phones are everywhere you turn (literally). In fact, the first thing I saw when I got off the plane was a cell phone store (weird). Cheap food is by the dozen, after conversion, I think me and Darren spent about $10-$15 bucks on food, for all 3 meals and snacks. Wicked cheap. Clothes are not that cheap yet however. But we were in malls, and so things there tend to be more pricier. Busses are extremely convienent and fast.
I haven't seen any cockroaches or weird lizard-thingys on walls. I can assure all if I do have a chance, I'll take a picture.
Aside from all of that, I've been doing conversions to Canadian dollars all day so I think my head is going to blow from all this Math.
Tomorrow we are going to Mong Kok for even cheaper stuff (yay!), and to the Hong Kong light show with Albert. I can't wait!! Now, I'm all sticky from the heat and humidity, I have to go shower now.
Tata!
