True story..no, really....
Interesting convo at work, I feel the need to share to all, between me and a fellow Asian lady, Joanne:
Joanne: "So Karen, are you Chinese?"
Me: "Yuppers!"
Joanne: "So were you born here then?"
Me: "Oh yeah..can you not tell haha!"
Joanne: "So what do you speak at home?"
Me: "Chinese. But I'm not very good at it though"
Joanne: "Didn't you go to chinese school?"
Me: "Nah..never went"
Joanne: (confused look on her face) : "So then how do you know how to speak Chinese..??"
*moment of silence*
Me: "Uh...my parents speak it......so I have to.....or else they don't know what I'm talking about....?"
Joanne: "Oh................" (looks away)
True conversation, ladies and gentlemen. Goes to show even though you are born here, no matter how true in your heart you are to your Asian roots, you will always be white-washed to the good ol' China ladies har har har!
Anyways, it's not offensive or anything...but it's hilarious how it didn't click for her faster than what I thought (or maybe what I thought should take......?)
Anyways, back to lab, TONS to update later when I have time =)

haha poor Karen. Everybody thinks we don't know a lick of Chinese over here. And apparently I look like I'm from America (HOW????), because I was in this store and one of the sales associates asked me if I was from America. I lied (ahahaha), and it seemed to work. And then, you know that guy I told you about from Van? When the dessert came, I was like, "okay, I can eat again!" And so he started laughing, b/c I was so full before, but now that there's sweets I can eat again. He said some Chinese phrase to his sister, but I pretty much understood the gist of it so I started laughing. He was pretty surprised, and said, "Hey you can understand that!"
Yes, okay. That's enough from me. Hmm I might bring my laptop to show you random other stuff tmw. :)
